Renew Your Old Shirt With A Touch Of Embroidery

If I am bored with a garment in my closet, I usually look for ways to update it, maybe according to a new trend that I spotted on the runway or something that I saw on Pinterest. I gravitate towards the embroidery trend the most because it's something I saw my mother do as a hobby and later taught me how to do it. She has embroidered a whole saree! I don't have that kind of patience (though I embroidered a kurta for my best friend a few years ago). Small projects are more right up my alley.

Tops, t-shirts, or shirts are simple to revamp with a touch of embroidery. Feel like the top is too blank, add some detailed design on a specific area like the shoulders or neckline. Oh! There is a small hole in the t-shirt you used just a few times, then maybe a creative use of embroidered design can do the trick.

To date, I have renewed two shirts, just for fun, using embroidery. When I got bored with this polka dot blue shirt, I knew I had to do something interesting to jazz it up a bit. Around this time, I came across Anya Hindmarch's quirky accessories that featured pixel art. Also, adding stickers to your denim jacket was a trend too. So, inspired by these two things, I set out to embroider the shirt. I must say, in the end, the overall look was very cool.

Recently, I took a shirt from my husband's closet and decided to give it my twist. I had pinned many pictures of embroidered flowers blooming from a pocket on Pinterest. That's what I set out to do with this striped shirt. To give it some edge, I also added bright yellow stripes to the sleeves.

All you need is some magic created by the humble needle and thread, and you'll have a garment that's as good as a new one.

Love,

Rashmi B.
