TBH, I have already started one and loving it!
When I was packing my bags to shift to the USA, the one thing I had to do was let go of a few of my clothes and accessories. The downsizing was a good exercise to declutter and concise my wardrobe. It was one of the toughest things I had to do, but it felt right. When I was here, because of the colder weather than I am generally used to, I saw myself investing in jackets, and promises of being fit made me want to buy gym clothes too. This was around late last year.
From this year onwards, I decided to stop shopping for clothes, at least for a few months because I already have the things I need and don't really need new clothes at the moment. I have spent money on accessories, though. All this was till March, and now because of the pandemic, I refrained from shopping, in general.
I always wanted to go on a clothes shopping fast, not because I shop incessantly but because from where I bought my clothes. A lot of my wardrobe consists of fast fashion brands, and I am really not proud of it. So, during my process of learning the harms of fast fashion, I came across this concept of shopping fast. It's where you commit to not buying anything for a good few months or even years. It's a huge commitment, but the results are amazing. You don't pile up unnecessary clothes that would eventually end up in the landfill, you get to experiment with your current clothes, and it's even good for your budget. Maybe, I'll write an in-depth blog on the effects and its benefits later date, when I decide to end the fast.
Do I want to browse through a cloth rack or hit checkout online to shop for my next #OOTD? Yes, but it's just not necessary anymore. Maybe the pandemic was the reason I continued doing it, but its different benefits make me want to do it now.
So, if you're wondering if it's a good time to start a shopping fast, then my answer to you would be yes.
Love,
Rashmi B.
