When I shifted my base to the USA, I always knew it's going to be a drastic change in my life. I can actually write a whole other blog on it, but there was one particular thing I wasn't ready for. Honestly, when it gradually happened, I was taken by surprise. It was the drastic change that my skin and hair went through. For some time, I didn't know how to adapt to it.
It's not the first time that this has happened to me. When I shifted to Pune for my studies, I dealt with it, though it was much easier then. The thing is my skin and hair were not only used to the humidity of Mumbai but also it's water. A shift to a dry weather climate changed everything for me.
I could see the same cycle repeating here, but it wasn't something just a simple change in diet was going to help like it did in Pune. The feeling of my skin being parched and my hair more frizzy then ever with unexpected curls (my hair has always been wavy) was all new to me. The one who didn't own a blow-dryer her whole life and believed in air-drying hair now started looking for videos on how to blow-dry hair at home (still struggling with it), just to tame them and have one good hair day. It's like one day you know how your skin and hair will behave very well and the next day you've to start from scratch.
My doctor made me realize that even though I don't sweat as I used to in Mumbai, in a dry climate area, I actually lose more water, and the sweat evaporates faster. It was an aha moment for me. My beauty routine was all based on how my skin and hair functioned in Mumbai's humidity. Like I needed to consume more water, in general, to replenish my body, the beauty regimes should change too.
Trust me when I say it's easier said than done. I have been trying for months to see what works and what doesn't. It's not only trial and error methods but also looking at the ingredients of a product, which, to be honest, I didn't keep a lookout on before. Though I feel like I am moving in the right direction with my skincare routine, when it comes to hair care, I am still experimenting. One of my first impulse decision was to cut it short, and I am glad I did it because it's easier to try new things with the length and volume.
If and when it works, then I'll share my new routines here on the blog, and the skincare routine might be up on the blog soon. Also, I am working on my 24x7 chapped lips too. So, until then, wish me luck.
Love,
Rashmi B.
