Here's Why I Decided To Dress Up Once A Week

It was the change my mundane lockdown life really needed.

Has repeating the same sets of pajamas become a new norm for you too? It certainly has been for me since the lockdown. The comfy home clothes have their allure, but also some side effects. I realized my productivity reduced over time as the same clothes made their way as regulars. In short, life became a mundane routine and needed a jolt ASAP. So, I decided to dress up at least once a week.

I remember researching for an article when I came across the psychological term enclothed cognition. Journal Of Experimental Social Psychology describes it as the systematic influence that clothes have on the wearer’s psychological processes, and it involves the co-occurrence of two independent factors—the symbolic meaning of the clothes and the physical experience of wearing them. I now truly understand its meaning. Our clothes really do have a psychological effect on us. The day I dress up, I feel energized, refreshed, and ready to take on the world. The signs are very evident.

A reset like this one is necessary. For me, it is not just the clothes. Makeup does the same trick. The day before, I decided to try on a new eye makeup look. The effect was similar. I was in a much better mood, and the level of productivity was also high.

It is amazing to see how such a simple act can bring about a positive change. It's an act of self-love. Do you have a similar experience? Let me know.

Love,

Rashmi B.
