I knew about the device called the epilator for a few years now but never really got to use one until the time I had to. It was around my birthday last year that I found myself searching for one online. Because of the high salon prices, I thought it would be my best bet, at least for underarm hair removal. So, without any research, I just bought one. During the pandemic, when the salons were shut, I saw a buzz around the device again. By this time, I was comfortable with the device and even shared my experience with my friends. For me, the benefits outperformed the negatives.
So, what's an epilator? It's an electrical device with plucks the hair from the roots. Similar to waxing, epilation is a hair removal technique, but it's done in the direction of hair growth. I was so apprehensive when I had to use it for the very first time. The fact that it was an electrical device that I had to use on my own was a bit daunting. The first pull was as hurtful as a wax, TBH. It got easy and less scary as I got the hang of it. Now, for me, an epilator is the way to go for underarm hair removal.
Here were the benefits that made the epilator work for me:
I saw it as a one-time expense (though I still don't know how long the device will work for me).
Easy to use.
It doesn't hurt a lot once you get used to it and doesn't leave any burns or scars.
It gives a smoother finish.
For me, it has reduced hair growth.
It won't discolor the skin.
I invested in it as a solution to waxing, and even though an epilator is said to work better on large areas, it didn't work for me when I used it on my arms and legs. I found it very painful in those areas. Since my skin is sensitive, it didn't react well to it there. So, I had to switch to wax strips for arms and legs. Although, I might give it a try one more time.
An advice from me would be to research your skin type and see if epilation is a good option because it may or may not work for you. Read product reviews and pick the one that you think will work for you. Plus, always patch test and see how your skin reacts. Your skin always communicates with you, so listen! I hope this small review helps anyone looking into it.

Rashmi B.
