Not really a poem, but putting down a few words about my beloved preloved wardrobe for #SecondhandSeptember.
I never intentionally shifted to secondhand products. It happened quite naturally for me. My mom had some beautiful dresses or sarees in her wardrobe, and I wanted them to be part of mine in the future. The fact that something is passed down and is now part of my closet meant (and still means) a lot to me. So, I never saw secondhand items in a bad light. I gravitated towards them.
It wasn't just my parents' clothes. When I was part of MissMalini's team, many colleagues would bring their preloved clothes. I really wouldn't mind picking the ones that matched my style. That's the beauty of preloved; the clothes find their own new home. For me, it's all about giving the clothing item a new life and giving it another chance. If the clothes are in good condition, there is no reason for them to end up in a landfill, right?
So, my secondhand journey had begun unbeknownst to me. I got lucky when I found a clothing swap shop in San Diego when I shifted here. After a year of clothing ban, I consciously started to invest in secondhand clothes via Positive Phee. My motto is out with the old and in with the preloved as I try to give my clothes a new home too. This year, I can proudly say that I see many secondhand finds in my wardrobe. They are my prized possessions.
If you can unlearn the bad rep about wearing secondhand clothes, you can truly find true gems in preloved clothes. #SecondhandSeptember is all about just this very thing. Owning preloved clothes is truly special. So, do give it a try if you haven't already. You can swap within your family, friends, and relatives, thrift, or shop at a swap shop.
Preloved clothes are truly beautiful because they have a story to tell. So, lets keep the story going.
Love,
Rashmi B.
