To find a good pair of trousers can get tricky very easily, but these pointers will help you while shopping for them.
I recently posted my first IGTV video that centred around styling a pair of trousers, and in which I mentioned a few key things to look at while shopping for them. There are a few more elements to consider while you hunt for a perfect pair. That's why when it comes to trousers, it's not a quick buying decision. If you want to find your match made in heaven, here's what all you can look into:
Different Styles & Cuts
There are many cuts and styles available in trousers; straight-cut, wide-leg, slim, tapered, pleated, and many more. The style or cut can be decided based on the occasion or reasons you want to invest in them. For example, for a more formal occasion, you'll go for a tailored fit, straight-cut trousers, but for a resort look, you'll want to buy a more relaxed shape and style.
The Fall
Depending on the style or cut of the trousers, the fall comes in play. As I mentioned in the video, walking in them will give you an idea of how it'll look while in motion, which is a good test.
What Suits You Is Ultimately The Winner
Once you decide the style, you need to see if it suits your body type. Some trouser styles can drown you if they don't work for your body. For example, I am slightly pear-shaped, which means my lower half of the body has more curves, and that's why wide-leg trousers suit me. Another example would be to add height it's recommended to go for high-waist and straight-cut trousers or with minimal pleats.
The Fit
In the video, I mentioned the three areas to pay attention to while buying a pair of trousers are the upper thighs, the hips, and the waist. A good fit in these key areas could make a whole lot of difference. So, it's a good idea to sit, walk, and move around in the trousers to check the fit before you buy.
Keep A Check On The Length
Too short and someone might think you are better off in culottes and too long comes with a danger of tripping over. Consider the shoes and heel length you'll be wearing with the trousers. In fact, if you know the shoes you're definitely going to wear, then it's a good idea to wear them while shopping for trousers. If high heels are on your mind, then you can look for long-leg trousers, but if you're considering flats, then something that just grazes the floor can look super chic.
Alterations
Many of us just wear whatever we buy without considering the option of alterations, even when many stores provide such services. For a pair of trousers to look really fine, you'll have to make slight adjustments, like for me, I had to adjust the waist with darts, and sometimes I have to adjust the height if the trousers are too long for me. Keep a check on all the above points and do your alterations.
I hope these tips were helpful to you, and please do check out my IGTV video below if you haven't yet.
Love,
Rashmi B.
