In May, I explored my love for the different aspects of the fashion industry through various documentaries.
At the start of May, I was on a quest to rekindle my passion for fashion. It wasn't like I was ever over it, but I felt I was just no longer deep-diving enough. It was a crazy experiment to bundle in as many fashion documentaries and fashion-related books as I can. My super ambitious plan was to watch one documentary per day (phew!). In the end, I made it halfway (yay!).
I got a chance to watch the following documentaries, according to the dates:
1st - The First Monday In May (Amazon Prime Video - Rented)
2nd - 'Christian Dior, Designer of Dreams' at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs & The world of Monsieur Dior in his own words (YouTube)
3rd - The September Issue (Amazon Prime Video)
4th - Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel (Amazon Prime Video)
5th - Maddman: The Steve Madden Story (Netflix)
6th - Franca: Chaos and Creation (Netflix)
7th - The Gospel According to André (Hulu)
8th - Iris (Hulu)
9th - Becoming (Netflix)
10th - Crazy About Tiffany’s (Hulu)
11th - Dries (Amazon Prime Video)
12th - Bill Cunningham New York (Amazon Prime Video)
18th - Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's (Amazon Prime Video)
19th - Dior and I (Amazon Prime Video / YouTube)
20th - The Drawings of Yves Saint Laurent (Amazon Prime Video)
29th - Gucci: The Director (Amazon Prime Video / YouTube)
I purposely picked different aspects of the fashion industry through these documentaries, so I could get an insight into them. It's good to see the workings of the industry from different points of view. Since fashion has so many aspects, an exercise like this one can help anyone figure out their field of interest and future focus in fashion.
Though it was a crazy experiment, I did enjoy it thoroughly. I don't consider Becoming to be a fashion documentary, but I really wanted to watch it because it was released that week. I had also seen 2 of the documentaries before, but it was fun to revisit them. In fact, I can watch all of them again, anytime and plan to keep on watching such insightful documentaries, whenever possible. McQueen is on my list next!
Love,
Rashmi B.
